People who have anger problems usually have little control over their behaviour. It is as if a switch goes off in their heads and they lose control of their thoughts and actions. Anger is of course a natural and useful emotion, one that can help us regain control of a situation when we are hurt or threatened. However, like all 'good' things, too much anger can become destructive to ourselves and others, especially since it can be so hard to control with the conscious mind. What can leave some people unaffected can bring others to a boil. Anger can linger and fester, starting a cycle that's hard to break.

Anger is so insidious because its triggers are deeply rooted in our unconscious mind. Being too angry is not a moral failing because it is not something that can be consciously overridden. Thus, overcoming anger problems requires a full reprogramming of the operations of the unconscious mind. Anger therapy through hypnosis and neuro linguistic programming (NLP) can accomplish this goal. Our brain is very good at making automatic connections between events and behaviours; this is why so many behaviour patterns are nearly impossible to consciously reprogram. Hypnosis and NLP work on these unconscious patterns by directly interfacing with the unconscious and reworking the connections we make between events, emotions, and anger.

Hypnosis works by replacing the unwanted behaviour - anger - with more positive feelings, thoughts, and images. These anger management techniques thus help people transfer negative behaviour patterns into positive and productive ones.
